My last couple of posts have revolved around Gary Molander’s book Pursuing Christ, Creating Art. It seemed that now that I’ve finished reading the book it would be good time to review it overall.

I have been an avid reader since I was a child. When I first learned to recognize the words, “See spot run,” and realized they made a thought and the thought was conveyed by someone who put the words on a page for other people to receive I became insatiable. Okay, so at the age of six I probably didn’t understand it with quite that level of depth but you get the picture. I was completely sold. Since that time I’ve read thousands of books spanning numerous genres. And while I am passionate about books and reading I am aware that the true gems, those books that stand out from the others, those that create a fresh path for the reader are few and far between. In Gary Molander’s book Pursuing Christ, Creating Art he has a chapter devoted to a list his friend, Scott McClennan, wrote about his own personal experience with the creative process. As I read the list I broke into a fit of the giggles at the wit and whimsy that went into the creation of this list. Yet at the same time I also felt a funny feeling knotting up the inside my gut as I acknowledged the bull’s eye accuracy of the words. (more…)

I rarely comment on a book before I’ve either finished it or abandoned it as hopeless, but I find myself in possession of a new book that I believe could be genuinely life-changing for a lot of readers, and the temptation to start talking about it before I finish it is just too irresistible.  So I’ll jump in now and comment further as I read more.  (more…)
